FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)
Q. What
is the pre-requisite to become a Master member with your club?
A.
Our Masters club caters to a wide range of swim skill, age, and motivation.
The swimottawa Masters guideline is that members must be 18 years or older and able
to swim 1500 metres in about one hour. Additionally, you must
be able to swim front crawl, backstroke, and breaststroke. We'll teach you
how not to do butter-struggle :)
Q. Do you
have to be Jewish to become a member?
A.
Absolutely not. Our members come from all faiths. They also come with different
swimming skills too :)
Q. How do
I enter the facility? Do I need a pass?
A.
Non-members will have to sign in and in some cases show picture ID. JCC members
are issued a swipe card that must be presented at the front desk upon arrival.
Q. I am
a triathlete/ex-waterpolo player. Do you do stroke drills?
A.
Absolutely. We have a theme in each practice and provide stroke drills before
the aerobic sets. Keep in mind that the focus is mainly technique in an aerobic
set. If you need a lot of stroke improvement, we may need to provide customized
sessions outside of the Masters practice that are specific to your needs.
Q. Who are
the coaches and what are their credentials?
A.
This season we will have some experienced coaches as well as some younger
coaches who are keen to start their coaching careers. All coaches are ex-competitive
swimmers who have been involved with the JCC GFSC swim club. The club is coordinated
by Tom Anzai, who himself is a certified coach, competitive swimmer, and occassional
triathlete (who runs like most people do butterfly :-). Coach favourite, Marie
Anzai, will be coaching the noon hour swim. Tim, Fraser, and Scott will round
out the rest of the coaching staff.
.
